Winning Teams

Chosen by an independent panel of judges, the grand prize winning solutions are radically affordable compared to what is currently available on the market; and are comparable to commercial offerings at measuring sensitivity, specificity and limit of detection, with a maximum turnaround time of 12 hours from sample to result.

The winning teams are:

Meet the Finalists

Out of 219 teams, these remaining teams have demonstrated capabilities to develop Covid-19 tests for screening that are radically affordable compared to what is currently available on the market, that are comparable to commercial offerings at measuring sensitivity, specificity and limit of detection, with a maximum turnaround time of 12 hours from sample to result. Just one COVID-19 test option is not enough to meet society’s daily demands. XPRIZE Rapid Covid Testing recognizes the need for multiple testing solutions, awarding prizes to innovations in different categories — PCR, Isothermal Amplification, Next Generation Sequencing, and Antigen Detection. The diversification of testing options will help enable safe return to school and work, faster.

Meet the Open Innovation Teams

Additionally, 10 other teams were selected to advance in the Open Innovation Track, whose approaches demonstrated high potential for impactful screening solutions, but could not be categorized as polymerase chain reaction (PCR), Isothermal Amplification, Next Generation Sequencing, or Antigen Detection and could not be tested through the competition rounds. At the discretion of the judging panel, top teams in this track will be eligible to win a share of $500,000. These teams may choose to perform testing at a deployment site and upon successful completion are eligible to share an additional award of up to $500,000.
