Dr. Yasuyoshi Yokokohji

Yasuyoshi Yokokohji received his Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1991 from Kyoto University, Kyoto, Japan. From 1988 to 2009, he was a Research Associate and then an Associate Professor of Kyoto University. He is currently a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Graduate School of Engineering, Kobe University, Japan. He has been conducting research on teleoperation systems and haptic interfaces more than thirty years. Dr. Yokokohji is the first one who teleoperated a robot arm mounted on a satellite (ETS-VII) from the ground by bilateral control under 7-sec time delay in 1999. He served as a Program Co-chair and Conference Editorial Board Member for three consecutive World Haptic Conferences in 2007, 2009, and 2011. Dr. Yokokohji is now organizing another robotic competition, the Assembly Challenge, as a Chairperson of the Industrial Robotics Category, at the World Robot Summit (WRS) sponsored by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO).
